Few properties reach such a significant milestone without picking up some stories along the way, and the Phoenix is no exception. Take a walk past the hotel\u2019s suites and you begin to notice the elegant brass plaques on each of the door. Each named after a significant person or place whose story has contributed to the wider tale of the hotel. Arguably the most famous of the Phoenix\u2019s many tenants is Mr. Soekarno – Indonesia\u2019s first President for whom the hotel acted as the official residence following the withdrawal of Japan after World War 2.<\/span><\/p>\n
